Globalization. The dictionary defines it as the process of making something such as a business operate in a lot of different countries around the world, or the result of this. One business example is Microsoft. Microsoft has a monopoly over the computer operating systems market and Microsoft has its offices all over the world. Wikipedia, (one example of globalization) defines the term globalization in its literal sense is the process of transformation of local or regional phenomena into global ones. It can be described as a process by which the people of the world are unified into a single society and function together.

This process is a combination of economic, technological, sociocultural and political forces. Globalization is often used to refer to economic globalization, that is, integration of national economies into the international economy through trade, foreign direct investment, capital flows, migration, and the spread of technology

Most people think in terms of economics when discussing about globalization. I want to highlight to you about the effect globalization has made on our food (a basic need). Nowadays people are able to taste cuisines from all over the world in just one country and one good example is Singapore. Know as a food-loving country, Singapore has various restaurants catering to people of various food palates. It is not unusual to find Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Italian or even Turkish Kebabs in heartland malls such as Parkway Parade near our school. McDonalds has outlets in India, KFC has an outlet in China, Sakae Sushi which is a home-grown brand has outlets overseas or Ya-Kun kaya toast which opened an outlet in Tokyo are all examples of the changing food scene all over the world be it in DCs or LDCs. So the next time you eat Roti  Prata or Hainanese chicken rice, take time to amaze how food originally from far-flung countries came to this spicy/sweet red-dot and evolved over time to become a unique Singaporean dish.
