Feedback for Activity 1 and the start of Activity 2
Well-done for those who have submitted your entries! I enjoy reading all your comments. However, I prefer you to write your own opinions instead of a 'cut and paste' job. When you cut and paste other people's work, you've to acknowledge, if not you're plagiarising. Plagiarise means take the work or ideas of others and pass them as your own. It's an intellectual dishonesty.
There are 19 out of 23 from 4EA (82% participation) who have responded and 15 out of 20 from 4EB (75% participation). For those who have not participated, I urge you to quickly jump on the band wagon.
I also appeal to you to follow the instructions given. I've students giving me all kinds of formats and headings. Please read carefully. This will greatly facilitate my managing of your posts.
From my read, it seems that everyone has some ideas of what globalisation is about. Put it simply:
Globalisation is defined as the process by which people, their ideas and their activities in different parts of the world become interconnected or integrated.
So all your pictures are good examples of globalisation. Now let's proceed to activity 2.
Activity 2
We're going to use the enquiry-based learning approach (EBL) to learn Chapter 2 of the Sec 4 Social Studies textbook together. EBL requires:
1. students to work in groups;
2. use a research-based approach towards learning
3. organise what you've researched on and present the information in a meaningful way.
Our research question is:
"How does Singapore sustain economic growth in a globalising world?"
1. I need you to brainstorm at least 5 leading questions that will help you answer this 'big' question. In other words, what are some information you need to gather before you can answer this research question. You can look at your textbook for some ideas.
2. I need each of you to post your 5 questions in the CCSS E-learning portal. This is how you do it:
- Log in to the school E-learning portal
- Go to the tab 'Cognitive Tools',
- Go to 'Chai Chee Forum',
- Go to the heading 'Sec 4 Social Studies',
- Go to your designated groups to post your questions.
3. After everyone has posted the questions, please discuss among yourselves which are the 5 questions that will best help you answer the big question. Do all your discussions in the forum. I'll visit the forum to give you my comments on your questions too. Once you've decided on the 5 questions, please put them in your forum post with the heading 'FINAL'.
EVERYONE MUST POST 5 QUESTIONS. I'll be tracking your names through the forum entries.
Deadline: 10 May 2009
Your grouping list is here.
