This photo was taken last year on Chai Chee's racial harmony day celebration. All 6 of us are of mix nationality and races. Usually the teachers of 4EA and 4EB would always say that our classes are international as they comprises of people that are not only from our 3 main races, Chinese, Malay and Indian, our classmates are from all over the globe. Some examples are Vietnam,Thailand,China,Indonesia,Malaysia and Hong Kong. My classmates get along just fine with one another, often using english as our common language. On that day of the celebration,my class had to go up on stage to perform a song called Peng You, which means Friends in english. Even though the lyrics are in mandarin and some of my friends are clueless about that language, they were very keen in learning. The chinese students paired up with them to guide them through the song. This has further strengthen our bond as a class. Even though Singapore has created a sense of national identity, ethnic issues are still very fragile, even up to today.
